Charles S. Ryan

President and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Charles S. Ryan was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Orthobond Corporation in August 2017, after serving as CEO since October 2016.  Dr. Ryan is an experienced executive with an extensive background in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, including strategic planning, intellectual property, and research and business development. From March 2015 to May 2016, he served as the Vice President, General Counsel for Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (a preeminent international research institution in New York). In this position, he provided guidance to the organization on business, legal and public policy issues, including licensing, patenting, partnering and alliances, compliance and regulatory matters, and new business initiatives.

Prior to his appointment at Cold Spring Harbor, Dr. Ryan served for over a decade at Forest Laboratories, Inc. (acquired by Actavis plc in July 2014), a specialty pharmaceutical company in New York, as its Senior Vice President & Chief Intellectual Property Counsel.  At Forest Laboratories, Dr. Ryan led hundreds of due diligence teams, managed all aspects of patent and trademark litigations, developed cross-functional teams to establish a global strategy for hundreds of products, built and managed the company’s IP team, and recruited, developed and trained executive leaders.

From 2002 to 2003, Dr. Ryan held the position of Chief Operating Officer for Lab 21, Inc., a luxury skincare company providing customized skincare based on a proprietary platform technology. He began his career in biotechnology with The Collaborative Group, Ltd., a bio-science company providing development, research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and skin care industries, where he was employed as the Vice President, General Counsel from 1998 to 2002. Dr. Ryan also has experience in private law practice, holding positions with Darby & Darby, P.C. from 1995 to 1998 and Scully, Scott, Murphy & Presser from 1993 to 1995, both in New York.

Dr. Ryan currently serves on many public, private and non-profit boards including Applied DNA Sciences, Inc., BioRestorative Therapies, Inc., ABS Materials, Inc., GlycoMira Therapeutics, the Center for Biotechnology Advisory Board, and The College of Wooster Board of Trustees. He previously held board seats with Forest Laboratory Holdings, Ltd., the New York Biotechnology Association, Stony Brook University Medical Center Development Council (Chair), and Western New England University Board of Trustees.

Dr. Ryan earned his BA in Chemistry from The College of Wooster in 1986, a PhD in Oral Biology and Pathology from Stony Brook University in 1990 and his JD from Western New England University in 1993.
